GLAM and Archival Digitization
Preserving Nigerian culture, oral histories, languages, and heritage sites through partnerships with NCMM, NTDC, national archives, and global repositories.
Nigerian Language Oral History Documentation Project
This project focuses on recording high-definition audiovisual documentations of oral histories, traditional folklore, and mother-tongue pronunciations of languages spoken across Nigeria. By documenting endangered and regional languages directly from native speakers and community custodians, we preserve vital intangible cultural heritage that would otherwise be lost to history.
Perpetual Archival & Global Open Access
All documented materials, audio transcripts, and video recordings are archived in perpetuity across world-renowned public repositories:
Government & Heritage Partnerships
To promote and guarantee the authentic, verifiable documentation of Nigerian heritage sites and monument records, the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria has established strategic institutional partnerships with key federal and state cultural agencies:
NCMM
National Commission for Museums and Monuments: Partnering to conduct professional surveys, archive rare historical manuscripts, and capture photographic records of gazetted national monuments.
NTDC
Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation: Collaborating to map eco-tourism assets, cultural landmarks, and indigenous arts for Wikimedia Commons and international discovery.
WikiHeritage
Deploying funded volunteer fellowships and research cohorts across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones to document sacred groves, ancient palaces, indigenous festivals, and archaeological discoveries under Creative Commons open licenses.
Wiki Imagine Lagos
A specialized urban documentation campaign chronicling Lagos' architecture, historic colonial structures, creative arts communities, and maritime shorelines through community photo-walks and public archival digitization drives.
