Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) is an annual international photographic competition held throughout May and June, organised worldwide by the Wikipedia community members with the help of local Wikimedia affiliates across the globe. Participants take pictures of local natural heritage and scenic landscape in their countries, and upload them to Wikimedia Commons. The aim of the event is to highlight the conservation areas of the participating countries with the goal to encourage people to capture pictures of these sights, and to put them under a free license which can then be re-used not only in Wikipedia but everywhere by everyone.[1][2] The first Wiki Loves Earth competition was held in 2013 in Ukraine, and the contest became international in 2014. In 2019, 36 countries participate in the contest.
This edition of Wiki Loves Earth 2019 in Nigeria went beyond photo caoture and uploading. Wikimedia Nigeria in partnership with PlusTV Africa, an Afropolitan 24 hour TV News Channel owned by General News & Entertainment Company (GNEC) Media Group, which was established to provide news content to cater to the African professional and the millennials who seek quality African news, stories and content, introcuces a weekly photo review tagged Wiki Loves Earth- Jury Options where Nigerian professsional photographers from all walks of life  provide insighful comments on submitted photos. The program was aired for 3- weeks with 5 episodes.
The maided edition of Wiki Loves Earth in Nigeria took place in 2017. The country performances in the international competion have been oscillatory in nature with  686 photos in 2017, 495 photos in 2018 and  lastly 1384 photos in 2019.

Wikimedia Nigeria  became a member of the global Wikimedia community in  2015 and it has participated in many global and local events. It was adjudged the best NGO in Africa in 2018 by African Excellence Award held in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
